Is The Recession Really Over?

Image
The economic apparatchik of the Obama administration have been shouting to the rooftops that the recession is over. What's the evidence? The recent economic data says that the economy grew by 3.5% in the last quarter-making it the first time the economy grew in a year. Under normal circumstances it would be reason to celebrate however this isn't one of them. The reason is that the aforementioned 3.5 % isn't real growth-it's fake growth fabricated by the economic stimulus and the cash for clunkers program. The problem with government spending is the moment it stops, the economic benefit stops as well. Real economic growth comes from the private sector and small business job creation. In spite of this bump up in GDP, it has had little effect on the job numbers which remain flat at 9.8%. I think that in spite of the unemployment numbers and the slow economic growth, the democrats will continue to use smoke and mirrors to keep up the illusion of recovery until the midterm e

How We Got Here

The Brutal murder of teen Derrion Albert last month in Chicago has once again sparked a national debate about urban youth violence. Albert, a clean cut and by all accounts decent young man was beaten to death by a mob while on his way home from school. The horrific murder was caught on a cell phone camera by a bystander. This debate seems to happen every few years or so. Chicago has certainly had many of these incidents over the past decade due to their out of control gang problem, which has been so since I was a child spending summers there with my father- who has lived there for close to thirty years. This incident could have happened in any large or midsized city in America. African American males all across the countries inner cities are filling up prisons and cemeteries at alarming rates. How did we get to this point? Can these negative trends be reversed? Sadly, I would have to say no. The proverbial toothpaste is out of the tube. Since the 1960's, each generation has gott

The Russian Reset (back)

I remember just a few months ago, The Obama administration promised to "reset" US and Russian relations that were damaged under the Bush administration. Obama threw a bone to the Russians and scrapped the missile defense shield last month which was initiated by the Bush administration. This was not welcomes news in Poland. The Polish press has ripped Obama for abandoning them in order to gain favor with Putin. For quite sometime, the US has tried with no success to convince the Russians to put pressure on Iran in order to slow its nuclear program. Some liberal commentators, such as Fox news contributor Marl Lamont Hill praised the move and was assured that Obama would not have made such a move without a quid pro quo deal in place on Iran. The administration has egg on its face for the second time in as many weeks when the Russians at least for now balked at the idea of sanctions on Iran, calling them "unproductive". So it appears the administration has given up

How To Destroy The World

American foreign policy is much maligned by the left. They think that American by and large is a force for evil and not for good. They believe that if only the so called American Military industrial complex would be reigned in, the world would be a better place. Well I say lets give the left what it wants. Lets do what Ron Paul and other Libertarians want: a total non- interventionist foreign policy. I offer you ten ways to destroy the world. 1. Pull troops out of The DMZ in Korea. This would be a delight for Kim Jong Ill. He would be free to scare the pants off of the South Koreans which could possibly put an end to the cease fire. 2.Pull troops out of Japan. This would leave Japan with virtually no protection against the pending N. Korean aggression. Also, China would be free to expand its sphere of influence. 3. Withdraw support for Taiwan. Tear up the protection agreement with Taiwan. Then stand by and watch them be gobbled up by China like a tic tac. It is no secret that China wan

The America I Used to Know

As a nation America is no longer competitive-we have become fearful that some people may fail. So in comes Uncle Sam with with big government solutions to insure that everyone gets something-even those who contribute nothing. Health care, education and soon pell grants have become rights . It has been proven that giving people something for nothing does them or society no good. Sports, the last bastion of competitiveness and personal development has been tainted by liberalism. Little league baseball scores are reset if one team is winning by a to large a margin. Some school districts have resorted to using purple ink pens instead of red to mark student papers. Red is considered to harsh. Others districts have banned dodge ball. The Obama administration has ushered in class warfare like no other before it. There is this culture of bashing the rich which creates a perception that people are rich because they exploit the poor. America used to be built on hard work and diligence which the

Schoolhouse Barack

The outrage regarding Presidents Obama's speech to the school children last month was met with ridicule by the left. After all, how could anyone object to the President of the United States telling America's school children to stay in school, study hard and not make excuses? Many don't know that there was a larger agenda-which was changed when the backlash began. The plans to have the children write essays as to how they were going to "help President Obama" were scrapped due the controversy. Now we have another more clear example of how Obama automatons in the teachers unions are indoctrinating America's children. The latest controversy surrounds a video whereby approximately 15 young school children are shown singing President Obama's praises while chanting Barack Hussein Obama- incidentally , a middle name that his opponents were chided for using during the campaign. Speaking of his campaign, I remember seeing Obama's face on a television commercial

Will You Still Want To Play Doctor?

There is a famous commercial from a few years ago where a guys says "I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV". Well pretty soon playing a doctor will earn you more than being a real one. After the soon to be passed health care bill takes effect, the medical profession will lose not only many practitioners but also prestige. The Canadians have traditionally come to the US seeking higher pay which they cannot obtain in their own salary capped government run system. Polls suggest that some doctors will either retire or leave the profession altogether. I don' think the administration has asked themselves where will all the doctors come from to treat the extra 20 million people on the system? For those who use the cliche " we are the only industrialized nation without universal health care" should consider the facts: Canada has approximately 33 million, roughly the same as California. Denmark and Sweden have less than 10 million people respectively. The US has po
