Liberal Foreign Relations

This past week at the MTV awards, the audience was forced to suffer through an attempt at political humor by a nondescript British comedian named Russel Brand. He began by urging Americans to elect Brack Obama for "the good of the world". Brand also made sexually charged comments about Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and of course the devil himself, George Bush by referring to him as "that retarded Cowboy fella".

Entertainers bashing Republicans is nothing new however this latest tirade gave me pause. The reason why foreigners feel free to come to our country to bash our leaders is because the entertainment industry has given them license to do so. They go around the world ala the Dixie Chicks, Michael Moore and Harry Belafonte and bash our country and leaders (Republicans) in order to ingratiate themselves to the "morally superior" world community.

When you hear the narrative about the world hating us, its important to remember where it comes from. Belafonte while exchanging pleasantries in Venezuela with dictator Hugo Chavez called George Bush the" greatest terrorist in the world". Moore has gone abroad and called Americans "stupid". The Dixie Chicks famously said that they were 'ashamed George Bush was from Texas" while performing in the UK.

Johnny Depp was so fed up with America- which during an interview in a German magazine he compared America to a "dumb puppy"- he moved to France. The romance only lasted a year and Depp moved back to the US due to the riots in Paris. So with all this negativity about America and its leaders why wouldn't people around the world dump on America too? I know that Hollywood craps on America but please don't question their patriotism.

The negativity I guess is a result of the free speech. I just wish people could speak without the level of disrespect that it seems we have embraced as of yet. But it's not just a problem in politics but in our society as a whole - disrespectful behavoir. We actually seem to embrace it.

As far as Johnny Depp goes, he still lives in France with his wife who is a French pop star and their kids. He does spend a lot of time in the states but he is still very much in France a lot of the time too.
