Time For The Slavery Mongers to Go Away

Whenever there is any controversial issue taking place in our country there are two things you can count on: Someone will invoke the name of Adolph Hitler, Nazi Germany or Slavery. During the Cleveland Cavaliers controversy, Spike Lee stated that Cavs Owner Dan Gilbert was treating Lebron like a "runway slave". Just this week, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson compared the current NFL labor strife to "modern day slavery". Just when you thought there was just one bonehead slavery comment this week, Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall came up with this gem: "Adrian Peterson was correct in his analogy of this game...anyone with knowledge of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel one another". I'm sure that getting hit in the heard causes some damage so let's first give these dunderheads a definition of slave. Slavery is involuntary servitude and/or unpaid labor. Slaves have no choice or control over their lives or destiny-they are the property of someone else. They can be bought and sold to the highest bidder. They get no pay, medical benefits, retirement, disability or 401K. Comparing pampered millionaire athletes to a people who suffered some of the most egregious and inhuman treatment one can imagine is beyond an insult. It clearly shows the sever lack of perspective many have today-not to mention their astonishing ignorance of history. If the NFL is modern day slavery, does that make Michael Vick Dread Scott? I wish that slaves had it so good. Maybe my great great grand father Romulous and his brother Remus could have been signed to a multi million dollar cotton picking contract-with an opt out clause after two generations. After retirement they could have sat back in their 6 bedroom farmhouse and collected a few thousand bucks a month or took a job in the front office of the plantation recruiting other slaves. Perhaps they could have even been allowed to buy their own plantation. For once I wish there was someone who would verbally slap these guys in their place whenever such moronic comments are made. The real tragedy is that there are adults who reach this level in America and never learn along the way what real life is like. Many of these prima donna's have never had the benefit of punching a time clock or even working behind a counter asking "do you want fries with that"? They have never waited a table or stocked a shelf. However, now that the NFL lockout is in full swing, many of them may now get that chance.
