No "Special" Conversation Needed For Black Children

There are many clichés that we all grow up with. Some of them are true and some are just simply tradition and not very useful. One such example is this "conversation" that blacks must reportedly have with our children as opposed to non black parents regarding police interaction. This topic has been renewed in light of the Michael Brown shooting by a police officer in Ferguson Missouri.

There notion that the police are afraid of black men, see them as violent, dangerous and therefore certain protocols should be understood when encountering them to avoid being shot and/or killed. What is more dangerous is the message itself. One that tells young black men that it is law enforcement that is the greatest threat to their lives. Although police misconduct is as real as that of any other profession, the number of lives of black men snuffed out by other black men is incomparable to that by police officers. The mainstream media irresponsibly spouts statistics about black men shot by law enforcement without context. The catalyst for the vast majority of these police confrontations is black male criminal activity which the left refuses to confront. According to FBI statistics, Blacks are seven times more likely to commit murder than other races and eight times more likely to commit robbery. While the numbers of black shooting victims are compared to that of whites, conspicuously absent is the fact that Asians have significantly fewer violent or fatal outcomes with police. Why don't the leftist social scientist ever compare shootings of whites against Asians? The fact that they are less likely to be shot by law enforcement than all other races combined is never mentioned. Are white cops biased against whites in favor of people of Chinese or Korean decent?

The usual celebrity suspects such as radical film maker Spike Lee are trotted out by CNN to declare that there is a "war against black men. Spike is half right, there is a war against black men and its not waged by white cops- but by other black men to the horrific tune of over 6,000 last year alone! In spite of what the black left continues to portray about whites "hunting blacks", the reality is much different. When whites commit violent crime, only 3% of their victims are black. Blacks are 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against a white, and 136 times more likely to commit a robbery. If Sharpton, Jesse and the NAACP seriously want to prevent the deaths of black men by the hand of law enforcement, the solution is self evident: Bring down the disproportionate black male crime rates and you will reduce the number of violent police confrontations. The latter will not happen before the former. No amount of agitation or activism will change the self destructive dynamic in black communities.

There is a conversation that should be had with black children, however it isn't vastly different from the one non-black parents should have with their children. (1) Obey the law!(2) Do not take things that don't belong to you. (3) Avoid using, selling or buying drugs (4) consume alcohol responsibly when of legal age (5) Drive your vehicle responsibly and have all documentation up to date and available (6) Conduct yourself accordingly when in public. (7) Show respect and courtesy to law enforcement, teachers as well as all others (8) Do not associate with anyone that breaks any of these rules. If more of us, specifically in our inner cities would live by these rules we would need fewer police to police us.
