Chris Rock: Minister of X-Rated Culture

I just sat through an embarrassing one hour comedy special by Chris Rock. The special consisted of three performances from three different continents: Johannesburg South Africa, London and New York. Rock, a favorite of the left, touched on a few hot button topics like politics and sex. The latter took up a great deal of his routine. I had serious thoughts of throwing my television out the window. This week on Larry King, Rock said that we should "vote for the guy with one house". If wealth is his criteria, by his own brilliant logic he would have voted for Bush-Cheney in 2000 and 2001-they have far less wealth than Kerry-Edwards combined. You have an American, standing in front of thousands in a country which less than twenty years ago had its black population living in virtual slavery, slamming my president who is five times more decent than just about every leader they have ever had. Not to mention the self righteous British who through colonialism and imperialist ambition c...

The Fed's Helping Hand

It's been a tumultuous week on Wall street. The Dow over two days dropped 700 points only to recover and finish the week with a small gain. What drove this roller coaster ride was a series of near financial cataclysms: The bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, the near bankruptcy of AIG and the sale of Merrili Lynch to Bank of America. A week earlier the feds took control of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This looming financial catastrophe sent the Treasury and Congress scurrying for a solution and it came in the form of a $70 billion rescue package. A government entity will be created in order to warehouse all the bad debt on the books of these companies, similar to the Resolution Trust Corporation which saved us during the Savings & Loan scandal on the 80's. There are two schools of thought on the subject of bailouts: One side(congress) thinks this was the only option considering how intertwined these financial behemoths are with the global economy-leaving them to ...

Liberal Foreign Relations

This past week at the MTV awards, the audience was forced to suffer through an attempt at political humor by a nondescript British comedian named Russel Brand. He began by urging Americans to elect Brack Obama for "the good of the world". Brand also made sexually charged comments about Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and of course the devil himself, George Bush by referring to him as "that retarded Cowboy fella". Entertainers bashing Republicans is nothing new however this latest tirade gave me pause. The reason why foreigners feel free to come to our country to bash our leaders is because the entertainment industry has given them license to do so. They go around the world ala the Dixie Chicks, Michael Moore and Harry Belafonte and bash our country and leaders (Republicans) in order to ingratiate themselves to the "morally superior" world community. When you hear the narrative about the world hating us, its important to remember where it come...

Oh, Canada! Do you Hate Palin too?

The following is an excerpt from a column by Heather Mallick of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. ' Mallick's column -- "A mighty wind blows through Republi can convention" -- advances two theses: (1) That John McCain's selection of 44-year-old Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his VP nominee was a crass gesture meant to appease the party's "rural," "unlettered" "white trash" base; and (2) that Palin herself is a tacky, badly dressed redneck who looks like a "porn actress." Then comes the coup de grace -- Mallick's assault on Palin's family: "[17-year-old] Bristol has what is known in Britain as the look of the teen mum, the ' pramface .' Husband Todd looks like a roughneck; Track, heading off to Iraq, appears terrified. They claim to be family-obsessed while being studiously terrible at parenting. What normal father would want Levi 'I'm a f--kin' redneck' Johns...

Kwame Kilpatrick's scandalous awakening

I have to admit that whenever a political scandal breaks in the news I can't wait to tune in to Jay Leno to see what hilarious cracks he comes up with. Earlier this year we've seen New York Governor Elliot Spitzer resign over revelations he was involved with a prostitution ring. This week Embattled Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick plead guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of Justice which results in four months jail time, five years probation and he must pay 1 million dollars in restitution. The charges stem from a civil suite filed by his former body guards claiming they were fired unjustly by Kilpatrick for an internal probe into his personal conduct. One these allegations was an affair with his aid Christine Beatty . The obstruction of justice charges were brought against him for lying under oath about the affair. I remember thinking to myself when Kilpatrick was first elected that he was too young and immature for that kind of responsibility. Once in office, his ...

For New Orleans,a real Governor is the difference

In 2005, The city of New Orleans was washed away while its leaders Ray Nagin and Governor Kathleen Blanco fumbled the ball. In Nagin's spectacular incompetence, he waited until 24 hrs before the storm to call for an evacuation, he left the emergency vehicles on low ground to be flooded and his Governor put ego ahead of pragmatism and wasted precious time before declaring a state of emergency. One half of this comedy team Blanco, has been ousted while Nagin got another shot due largely to his complexion. Blanco was thankfully defeated in 2007 by Bobby Jindal a young 37 year old Republican superstar. Jindal, an east indian is the first to win elected office. Very tough on corruption and political perks, he has brought something to Louisiana politics that they have never seen before: transparency. Since taking office he struck 16 million in government waste from the state budget, instituted financial disclosure reforms, and transparency rules for lobbyists. Jindal was magnificent in ...
